The prophecy of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has indeed come true, as today in every town and village the Mahamantra can be heard purifying all living entities. This massive transformation from materialistic mentality to God consciousness in the west was brought about by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - a true miracle!
It was in the month of Kartik that all devotees were plunged in an ocean of distress when Shrila Prabhupad departed from this world and entered nitya lila at 7:20 in the evening. In Shridham Vrindavan, Shrila Prabhupad left this world in his quarters amidst kirtan and surrounded by his disciples.
Every year, Shrila Prabhupad's disappearance day is observed with constant glorification and remembrance of his divine pastimes. The deity of Prabhupad is taken to Krishna hall where grand guru puja is performed. Devotees experience simultaneously both inexpressible joy and intense separation, as Prabhupad disciples describe unlimited glories of Shrila Prabhupad.
Following glorification, Shrila Prabhupad is bathed by loving disciples while sweet holy names are sung with mridangas and kartals. Pushpanjali and arati is offered in Prabhupad's Samadhi. The day culminates with devotees assembling in Prabhupad's house for artik at 7:20, singing Guruvashtakam with tearful voices and hearts filled with intense separation.
